Peace, family! I’m Misty, your favorite certified traveling doula, and I am deeply passionate about supporting families through their birthing journey. My path to becoming a doula was nurtured by a strong desire to empower and support birthing people, and I truly believe that you have to be chosen for this sacred work—because it certainly chose me.
How It All Began
Nearly eight years ago, my journey started in a rather unexpected place—teaching youth yoga to children across more than 10 schools in Los Angeles. My days were filled with the joy of guiding young minds and bodies through the practice of mindfulness and movement. But even back then, I felt an undeniable pull toward something deeper, something more sacred. Educators and co-teachers would often assume I was a doula, sensing a nurturing spirit in me that I had yet to fully recognize myself.
As I continued my yoga journey, I began to notice how often I was drawn to support the women around me, particularly mothers. I found myself adorning women’s wombs before and after birth with love and intention, creating a space of calm and healing for them. The response was always the same—gratitude, connection, and a deep sense of peace. It wasn’t long before mommies started asking me to be present for their births. And to me, there was no greater honor.
A Calling from the Most High
These experiences weren’t just coincidences; they were signs. Signs that I was being called to a higher purpose. It became clear to me that the gift I share with mothers and children is truly from God—a role chosen by the Most High. This sacred calling is not one that can be pursued lightly. It is a path that requires trust, patience, and an unwavering commitment to serving others in their most vulnerable and transformative moments. I am simply trusting the path laid out for me, knowing that this is my purpose.
My role as a doula is not just a profession; it is a calling, a divine purpose that I step into with humility and gratitude every day. It is about more than just being there for the birth; it’s about holding space, being a pillar of strength, and creating a nurturing environment where families feel safe, empowered, and loved.
What Does a Doula Do?
For those who may not be familiar, a doula provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a birthing person before, during, and shortly after childbirth. But to me, it goes much deeper than that. My role is to be a guardian of peace, a facilitator of sacred ceremonies, and a beacon of empowerment for birthing people.
Every birthing experience is unique, and my approach is tailored to honor the desires and needs of each family I serve. I incorporate holistic practices that blend traditional wisdom with modern understanding—everything from creating calming birth spaces with aromatherapy and soothing music to providing hands-on comfort measures and spiritual guidance.
